I haaaate moving. When did I accumulate so much stuff? Moving an entire apartment into one bedroom was a big mistake. So if you need anything.. come to my bedroom... I'm sure I have something you may be looking for. No joke. A lot of stuff will be going to Goodwill just to make space!

I went into the photo building two days ago because a friend told me there were still a ton of seamless' that were going to be trashed. I thought, "Hey, I'll grab a few for me and a friend and be done with it..." I grabbed a few and then some. I know have six 9ft seamless' and two 4ft. All different colors. SCOOOORE. I easily have $300 worth of background paper. To say the least it was like Christmas. Oh and, I got a print that someone left from the "Big Picture Show." Yupp.. its mine now... unless they want it back.. then alright..

Back to organizing.. if someone sends a dumpster over to my house and sits it right under my window... you may be the coolest person alive.

Well... graduation came and went.. It didn't really hit me over the weekend that i just graduated COLLEGE. REALLY???!! It seriously feels like I just got to SCAD. But lucky me, i'll be sticking around town for a little bit longer... Mixed feelings on that one.. Anyway, I moved into a new apartment for the summer. I have roommates again. Strange.. But I'm back downtown and away from the stupid islands! As I finished moving today everything finally hit me. I'm a college grad, people who i have know the last four years or just met a few months ago are leaving. Yes, some people will only be a few hours away.. and we'll visit all the time.. 4 hours is a lot different than 4 minutes. SCAD really kind of sucks in that aspect; we all get to know each other so well and then graduation comes and we're all spread around the world. Ahhh!

Summer plans... well those changed drastically... Although it should turn out alright. I ran into a friend last night and he said he needed a second shooter because he's starting his own wedding photo company and needs a girl shooter. So hopefully that wasn't a drunk idea in a bar!

So, finals are upon us. I officially started "panic mode" this weekend. I have to shoot my whole editorial and finish printmaking in a week. Who knows when or even what is due for Corporate. I dont have the urge to shoot for that class right now. Although I really should. Oh yeah, and the senior show is Friday night. So i'm scrambling to get that finished... I've put sleep on the back burner. The entire week after graduation is devoted to sleep. No joke. People were driving to work this morning when I was going home to get a few hours of sleep.

With that said, what I have been working on is turing out well. I'm really excited about the images i'll be showing. BUT i've been putting more time into this show than my finals, which is coming back to bite me... oh well. I'll make it work. I shot this weekend for Paul again. He had a concept in mind for a project of his. It turned out well.. the photos at the bottom are from that shoot. I plan on using Sam for my editorial spread for Fashion. Which I need to hurry and get that together to shoot in a day or two... Speaking of.. i'm going to go do that.

I dont know how so many people in art school pull all nighters, its not for me. I was at one of the computer labs until a little after 3am. And then I woke up late for work today. Go me. Oh well, no one even knew. But here's an image I ended up with after my late night...

Also, I updated my images on my website. I'll be updating the whole thing here in the next few days.. new color probably, new bio page, etc.... all that will be coming soon.

Shoot weekend

I spent this whole weekend (ok, a good chunk of it..) either shooting or assisting on shoots. I reshot for my studio lighting assignment for Fashion Photo. It turned out really well. An Le helped assist and style my shoot on Saturday. It turned out well, I haven't really had a chance to look at all the images closely. I'm going to be spending tonight retouching a few of them.. considering they're due tomorrow evening... whoops. Friday and Sunday I assisted a couple friends on their shoots. Friday I got a tan and Sunday I had a bit of an arm workout. (can't get better than that! ha, both are much needed) The next few weeks will be fun of shooting and retouching. I've lost motivation for my other classes, which is sad because I really enjoy them. Oh well, I can screen print on my own time after school, which is awesome! PS. If anyone has a really good idea for a printmaking project, throw them my way because I need to have my final project proposal for class tomorrow...

Some friends and I are putting together a senior show. It's going to be pretty awesome. All the work is different from each other, so it's going to be an interesting show! I'll post more information once we have it!

Something about blogging has become painful for me. I'm not a fan, honestly. Well let's see... what has happened in the last few weeks... Silver & Ink, I was in that. It was a great show. I have no idea if my photo sold or not. If not, I have a framed piece to hang in my house, i'm okay with that. I got my stuff framed for Alexander Ink yesterday. It was cheaper than I thought to frame three prints, but still... my bank account is going to run out sooner than I'd like.

Uhh... I've been assisting friends, classes going well. LA next weekend, it will be more like work than play, but I guess that's what I have to do to get that big girl job...

Graduation in four weeks. I wont even get into that right now...

This week has been full of ups and downs. I'll be meeting with people in LA in a few weeks for possible job/ internship interviews. Hopefully a friend of mine will be joining. Pretty excited for that. But on a side note, a friend of mine is needing prayers right about now. She lost a family member this week and I feel terrible for them. Uhh.. this is my birthday weekend. So. It should be ok. Nothing amazing planned. I'm ok with that. I'm really starting to hate blogging... so. If I dont post for a while it's because 1) It's senior year... I have no time on my hands. I haven't even checked my email a ton. 2) I hate blogging...

New Series

I've started working on a series. Whoa. Who knew. It's going to be my printmaking project, but the final product for myself wont be printed on the presses. It'll be a mix of hand drawings and photo. I'm still working on the artist statement for it so it makes sense when I explain it... But i'm excited about it.

Here's part of the project, i'm going to have small details drawn in eventually. Just check back, they'll be on my website as I start finishing them.

These were shot on my Nikon... i'm tempted to go back with the Mark II and reshoot to get

sharper images... we'll see.

Spring quarter has started.

Crap.

Although my classes dont start until tomorrow. I'm trying to come up with ideas for Fashion Photo. Not very successful. I have some very vague ideas. Hopefully class tomorrow will help me figure out what i'm doing..

Finished reading 'The Last Song.' Great book. I hope they didn't screw up the movie. Can't wait to see it though. Partly because it was filmed here in Savannah..

From the last night of classes until St. Patty's Spring Break was awesome. Then it sped up and ended really fast. Good times for sure.

If I don't post much this week it's because it's spring break. It's been absolutely great! I've met so many awesome people in the last few months. This week is only bound to get better.

Anyway.. uh. Photo talk.. um. OH! I've been going through all my old Holga negatives the last few weeks finding ones I want to scan, yadda yadda yadda. I think i'm busting out the Holga again. I want to shoot with it during St. Patty's. I think it could be awesome. Plus I still have film in the camera from two years ago that I want to see what's on it..

But yeah, that's my photo talk of the day. I've shut my mind off in preparation for next quarter.

Eurpoean Excursion Soon?

After last summer I have fallen in love the the United Kingdom. No question about it! During winter break my aunt told me she was going to Ireland sometime in March or April? Sometime around then... At first I didn't think I could go due to school and lack of cash flow right now. But then I thought the other day... "Ya, know what? Missing school for Ireland is totally worth it." So I was going to use school loans (I know, shame on me) to pay for the trip. Its a week long trip.. so it wouldn't cost THAT much.

BUT. I texted my aunt the other night and she said they are not going anymore. :( Well now, that just burst my bubble. However. I did my tax return yesterday after tracking down all my W2's from employers who apparently hate me... yeah.. But I've never been so happy after filling my taxes. So now, I'm debating using that towards a summer trip to Europe.

If anyone wants to go? Let me know. I'm serious about making this happen! Im dying to get back there!

I'll have another blog post soon.. it should be a nice little rant.. but I dont want to write a novel today... so you must wait.

I dont know how much more Batman research I can do! I mean, I love Batman. Don't get me wrong. There's just SO much information about him that I don't know what all to put in my presentation. I don't want it to be an information overload because I've had classmates who have done just that with their presentations about subjects much more boring than this one.. I guess I shouldn't complain, I could have picked one of the other terrible topics...

The weather today was AMAZING. Totally skipped my second class today. There really wasn't much of a reason for me to be there. It was the second day of critiques and I already had mine. So. I just didn't go. Yes, that probably sounds bad. But you know what? I've been to every one of the class periods in that class.. so I think I deserve taking a personal day!

I've actually had a couple of really productive days.. did some editing, keeping up on english homework, updated the website, did some errands that needed to be done.. I feel pretty good about myself.

Side note: I need to find a wedding to shoot. Need to bring in some extra cash!

Weekend Update..

Not that anyone really cares about my weekend.. But I haven't really done to much that was productive photo-wise so I'm just going to talk about the going ons of Savannah. Deal?

Well, it started off kind of, okay, really crappy. I'm still bummed about this.. but, there's nothing I can do.. It will all work out in time... I hope.

For the most part I kept this weekend pretty low key. After the eventful weekend I had last week.. I had to keep it to a minimum this weekend for sure. Last night I did go out with a friend for celebrate her birthday. Good ol` time right there! Haven't done karaoke since I was 13. Seriously. Met some really cool people at the bar. The wigs were a big hit to say the least. Yes, there were wigs involved! I had to ditch mine early tho.. it was just too hot for it.

Now, after not doing homework all weekend for the most part i'm chipping away at it now. I think I have my 5 year plan presentation done. At least the best I know of what I want in the next few years. Now I just have to sketch for printmaking and work on my english presentation.

I've been working on homework on and off all evening. I'm in on a Friday night. Something doesn't seem right here... I guess it's good that I'm not not. It's not like I have money to spend anyway..

Earlier today I went to the school library to find a book I have to give a presentation about for my english class. Guess what... it's a Batman comic! Oh yes. I grew up watching superhero cartoons so this in theory was going to be fun for me. It still isn't bad, I just dont want to give a presentation all that much. Anyway... the library. Being in art school, there are TONS of socially awkward people. I dont say that to be mean, it's just the god honest truth. There was a guy sitting RIGHT in front of the stack that I needed. He kind of moved a little bit. Not much. He was wearing headphones so it really didn't make much of a difference if I tried to ask him to move.. I went around to the other side of him to see if maybe I had missed a few books, when I kneeled down to look he got skirwmish. i'm pretty sure this guy has not been close to a girl in his life. I felt out of place being in that section of the library! I didnt even know it existed until I looked to see if we had Batman books.. Silly me.. I'm in art school.. should have known. But after all that. They didn't have what I was looking for so I had to make a run to Barnes and Noble. Bah! Didn't want to do that. Got it. Read it. Taking it back to get my $20 back! woohoo!

Fastest week of my life...

Soooo it's already Thursday night... I feel like yesterday was just Sunday.. Strange week. Long week. I knew by the events of last weekend that this was not going to be a great week and I was right.. whatever. I've done what I can, I'm loosing energy. I've almost checked out of school. I have my sight on graduation. Granted... that's not until May.. So i have a whole other 10 weeks to make it through. Next quarter should be good. I hope. Really really busy though. I hate to say this... But I am dropping my printmaking class and taking a second photo class. I really think this is best.

Anyway, I feel so out of the loop when it comes to some things. A friend of mine just showed me this video from 2006, I believe, about the education system taking creativity out of schools and learning. Obviously since i'm in art school I think the arts are extremely important. I'm realizing that having this degree really isn't that important anymore, but I'm still glad that I will have it in a few months.. Funds for art and music classes are being cut and kids are being forced to take medication because they might be hyper. I could go on and on about this.. But you really should just watch this video. It's amazing. The speaker is great.

I've been a Timbaland junkie the last week or two.. sorry.

It was basically pointless going to printmaking today. I sat there 90% of the time just chatting with my teacher. Then the last 30 minutes of class I did the first etch on my stone.. But my excuse is that the processing table was taken up by other people so there wasn't room for me to do work... After that class I went to the photo building just to hang out before my next class. (Mind you, I was hanging out there for 3 hours...) Just to go to my next class and as i'm sitting outside of it waiting for the class in the room at the time to get out... someone puts a note on the door saying class was canceled... ughhh I hung out there for 3 hours for NOTHING! Good thing is I didnt have to critique today. So, that gives me time to fit in one more shoot to add to my work. Lets just hope I can get a camera and a location before 2:00 Thursday.. Shouldn't be too hard.. at least to get a camera..

um. Got a new phone. yupp. It's pretty sweet to say the least. It's my first "nice" phone. Touch screen and all! oooo! (Sorry, I'm a gadget girl.. I love technology.)

I'm still recovering from the weekend, trying to get myself in a better mood. Icing my ankle all the time when i'm home, wearing my brace.. It feels better for sure, just not 100%. So good news is, Im not going to the hospital for it.. I dont think it's broken. The last time I broke it I couldn't walk at all.. and i'm walking pretty well. So. We'll see. I hope its better by the time of my soccer game on Saturday.. hmm.. (cross your fingers for me.)

Silver & Ink is coming up soon.. I need to enter it this year for sure. I have two images picked out.. I just need a 3rd.. I have my "Dog Walker" and Mad Men looking glass shot picked out. I'm not sure what else I would like to enter..

This weekend started off very productive. And then it stopped.. didn't get much work done this weekend. I think I have a sprained ankle. I would rather forget about this weekend to be honest. Now I'm trying to write my response paper for my Detective Narratives class. That's obviously going well. I have my name and the story i'm writing about typed out...

Now I dont know what else to do. I'm waiting for my car to be finished. Which im sure it wont be until they close because something always happens with my car when I get it done.. ugh. Sometimes I pick the worst days to be at the photo building. It's a SCAD day and i'm working on the 1st floor. The groups are congregating outside the lab im in. Thank goodness for Ipods and headphones. Also I haven't been bombarded with questions from parents. So it's a successful day.

Now, if it would stop raining I would walk to the printmaking studio and start grinding my stone.. but that doesnt look like its going to happen anytime soon..

I just have a few thoughts for the night.

1) Any SCAD photo grad moving to LA after graduation, we all need to get a house together. No questions. We must do it.

2) I'm known by first name at Carlitos. Which is awesome? Or does that mean I go there all too often? But they know my drink, so its all good.

3) Does anyone have a Spyder I could borrow to calibrate my computer monitor. If so that would be AWESOME!

Some find this hard to believe... but I actually shot for myself yesterday! WHOA! It's for real. I shot at the Crystal Beer Parlor. That place is awesome, I really need to hang out there more. The staff is great. When ever they sat tables in the area we were shooting they would just be like "Oh, thats SCAD over there!" It was goofy. I think the images turned out alright. But i'm picky about my work, and i haven't gotten too much outside comments on them yet.. That will be tomorrow when I talk to my teacher... Oh boy. Not going to lie, i'm a little nervous. I stopped getting nervous for critiques a long time ago.. but that kind of changed with this class. I really shouldn't. Whatev... But i'm working on editing those. I need to learn to edit food better.. I'm trying to make the veggies on it look more saturated.. any advise?! I think i'm doing ok.. but i'm sure once it's printed out it wont look as good..

I finally have my monitor set up. I thought this wireless keyboard I bought of my roommate (well, former roommate now I guess) was pointless, but im digging it! My laptop was just getting in the way.. or i'm just lazy... one of the other.. But I like this keyboard.

Tomorrow I schedule for my last set of classes :( But all the classes BLOW this quarter. I'm taking fashion photography, which i'm actually excited for. I think i'm feeling better about fashion/ portraits just because i've been working on so many shoots the past few weeks. I've been helping out a couple friends with lighting and whatever else. But i'm doing everything else other than that. Such as updating this.. BUT. CLASSES! I wanted to take all photo classes spring quarter. Buuuttt the department decided otherwise.. Seriously.. there isn't anything offered that even sounds interesting... I did decide that I do not want to take another lecture class. Going to Arnold Hall really just blows. I hate that building. I enjoy having classes with people in my major.. I dont know what it is.. Plus i'm tired of lecture classes, i'd rather be doing something rather than sitting for 2.5 hours talking about a book... So my last quarter of school will most likely be intense..

Umm.. I've lost my train of thought.. So i'm just going to leave it here.. Sorry if it seems even more spastic than normal..

Just a few quick notes from over the weekend.

1) This printmaking project will be the death of me... AGH!

2) Senior critique kind of bleeww last Thursday.. oh well, it'll be better next time.

3) I stayed out of Bergen for a good chunk of the weekend which is a huge success. I needed a break!

I am officially not a fan of a normal weekend length (2 days rather than 3..) Having a make up class and work on Friday just seemed to throw off my whole weekend.. It was a very unproductive weekend to say the least. I just finished some sketches for my next printmaking project. It's based off things I remember from my childhood to some extent. It should be good! I didn't think my childhood was all that great, but it sure makes for a goofy project! I'll put up pictures of it at some point.

While I was trying to come up with ideas for my printmaking project I always use Stumble Upon, just to help me find strange things that I normally wouldn't even think to look up. I didn't really find anything to go with my project, but I did find something interesting. Recently in London, across from the National Gallery, 2,000+ photographers gathered to protest the laws against photographing in public places. In a nutshell, if a person of some sort of authority thinks that you look suspicious they have the right to take your camera and see what pictures you have. I've even heard of people getting their memory cards taken away because they had pictures of a port here in Savannah. Seriously? Not everyone is a terrorist. Public places just tend to have interesting stuff to shoot. Thank you Bin Landen for making the world even MORE paranoid than it was before.. But, here's the address to the article I found.

I think today is going to be a pretty lazy day for the most part. I might be assisting a friend on a shoot if it all works out for her. Otherwise hopefully i'll be setting up my desk area. (I bought a screen off my roommate to hook up to my laptop so I can work from home) Also, I FINALLY ordered Adobe CS4, that should be here tomorrow! I'm kind of a nerd, all I really care about doing at home right now is getting all that set up! And I need to buy a cord to actually connect my laptop to the screen... So looks like i'll be running around.

Lots of shooting and editing this week. Oh boy.

5 Year Plan... maybe not SO scary!

Wow. Today has been a flashback to Business Practices with Greg Ceo... I dont know if I have said this before... (probably have) but I'm taking Senior Photographic Project this quarter. All in all its just another version of Business Practices. Just in the class we work mostly on our book and finding out what works and what does

not. But today in class... oh boy. We were given the assignment to make a 5 year plan for our lives after college. WHHHHAAATTT?! It took me forever to decide on what classes to take this quarter, when I go in my kitchen to make dinner... I just stare at the inside of my baren fridge and hope that something magically appears that sounds good so I dont have to leave and go to Kroger.

And now I'm being asked to m

ap out the next 5 years of my life... ohhh boy!

Tonight I did start to realize kind of what I'm really going towards in life. I've been helping a friend with a project for one of her classes. She has not yet taken the studio lighting class and since I have, she has appointed me her lighting designer/ assistant. We've done a few together already this quater so she's getting the hang of how to work with the lights. So I kind of let her do her thing, since it's her project and her vision, I'll step in when needed. But tonight in the studio was like a reunion. I got to hang out with a few people who I dont always get to see all the time. I was running around the studio helping everyone with their stuff. Holding reflectors, standing in to test the lights, helping to decide on how to light her model the way she wanted, etc etc. It was just a fun night to say the least!

Well, with all that said, going back to what I want to do for the next 5 years. I

think i've narrowed it down to working as an assistant for the next few years, shooting on the side and eventually becoming a studio manager. That just sounds the best for me and I think I would be happiest at. I love helping people out on shoots. Whether that means helping set up the equipment or lighting a subject. I LOVE IT. These days it's looking like I'll be living in Los Angeles. I lived on the west coast once, but I was way to young to remember it.

I've spent a lot of time thinking about this and this looks like I'll be happiest this way. Chicago is still in the cards, I'm just not researching it quite at much at the moment.

Life is good. School is getting better. Here's a shot of my shoot the other day. I probably shouldn't give away my setup... but it was a personal shoot so I guess it's not that big of a deal....

The sun is out and it is gorgeous! It is January and i'm wearing flip flops.. you have to love that. BUT it is making it REALLY hard to get any sort of homework done... I got a lot done this weekend, I just have a quite a bit of reading left to do. We have a four day weekend due to MLK Jr Day. Living in the south everything closes down. I love having today off, but we have to make the classes up on Friday... which we normally have off.. so, you know.. it bites you in the butt in the end... oh well.

Anyway, I finally started my senior project. I'm working on adding food into my portfolio. I just did some basic studio shots yesterday. I plan on going into restaurants through out the quarter and getting some lifestyle type shots in. Yesterday went well actually, I was pleased with everything I did. Surprisingly I came out with at least one image of each thing I shot!

Somehow today I woke up feeling a little better about school. I'm still not totally in to it, but hey, I have to get stuff done. I don't know what made me change my mind. Maybe my senior project just kind of bored me. I have to talk to my teacher to make sure it's okay if I change my final product, yadda yadda yadda. It shouldn't be a problem. I'm going to be working on my book. I just want to add to that..

I already have to register for classes in two weeks?? Something like that. I finally settled on my class schedule this quarter and it's killing me. The class times and the times I work really aren't convenient. I'll just have to find a way to keep my self productive and motivated for the next 8 weeks.

Sorry guys, I took a short break from the blogging world. I didn't do much of anything at all over break. (Other than going to California of course) Once I was at home I sat and watched tv and Facebook stalked people who I kind of know, but dont really know that I'm friends with somehow anyway. (Dont judge, you do it too!) Basically I wasn't really feeling the whole photo/ blog thing when I was home. I honestly dont feel much like it right now. But I'm doing anything to not read my homework. Also I'm at work. Well, let me rephrase that... "work." I'm working in the photo building again doing work study, so I'm being paid to write this entry right now actually. Woohoo!

Well, school has started. My classes have been good so far. We played Clue in my first class, so that can only mean good things. (yet I dont want to read.. I do, but I cant concentrate. I seriously need to get this checked out... because i've never been this bad before.. and I dont believe its from Senioritis either..) Senior Project is going to be an interesting one. I think I know what I'm doing for it.. we'll see. We also have to come up with a 5 year plan..... great.. I dont know what Im doing in the next 6 months let alone the next 5 years of my life.. This year just keeps getting more and more scary.. make it stop! Please!

Aside from school I have something up my sleeve.... hmmm... I'm really excited about it! But, it's a surprise and I'm not sure who all actually reads this... so I cant give any details out. I seriously can't wait for the next few weeks to pass though! Ahhhh! :)

For the past three years whenever I come home I always do photos for a couple friends. I shot them today, it was a good time. Landon, their son, was the whole reason in the first place I started taking family portraits. When he was born they we wanted to take pictures, and now it's become tradition. I can only come home on average once a year. So every time Landon is SO much bigger. But finally once he remembered who I was! And then he called me his girlfriend! haha..

I feel like I should changed the name to this blog... I never really talk about anything "photo" related. I'm not busy enough to have something to talk about everyday. It should be named something a long the line of "rants"... yup. I think that would be better!

So. On the topic of rants... here I go..

Tiger Woods. I dont know about you, but I'm really tired of hearing about this guy. Ok, he's a great golfer who messed up his marriage. Yup. That's what he did. Ok, we get it, he slept with a ton of women. I still believe if he hadn't come out to say that statement after his accident people wouldn't have been as curious. I figured, "hey... car accident.. ok..." The media can cover up anything, why do divorces and stuff like this have to be made public? Break ups and divorces are messy situations, but they dont have to be made worse by the public. I can honestly say, I dont care if this will be the "most expensive divorce EVER." Who really cares?! This past week in Savannah a SCAD student was found dead in an alley. The school told us there was no foul play involved. But the newspaper said it wasn't going to be ruled out. Something sounds fishy there. This is an example of something being covered up. So please. Lets just cover up these stupid divorces. It would probably make it easier on those families also... Oh well, what do I know?

Basically, i'm tired of hearing about these divorces. Jon and Kate, Tiger and his wife... and all I want to really say, WHO CARES?!?!

Back from the Golden State..

Well, Im back from my visit to California. I had a great time just relaxing with old and new friends. It was pretty chill and relaxed, which is exactly what I needed! It started off with a LONG day of traveling.. I think I got an hour of sleep before I had to head to Chicago.. I'm your typical college student, on an average night I dont go to bed until 330-ish.. And thats when I had to leave. So. Needless to say, by time I got to Chicago I was ready for a nap! Thats exactly what I did for part of my flight to Sacramento

(Leaving Sacramento.. yes, I'm kind of a dork... I take pictures from the plane window... Deal with it! And apparently I can't change the image size on here anymore... Soo.. these images will probably be pretty large... oops.)

As a wedding gift to my best friend and her husband, I told them I will do whatever family photos they want. And that's exactly what we did one of my last days there. We went to Joshua Tree National Park for the afternoon. I LOVED this place. I wish I lived somewhere that had cool places like this. Maybe Georgia does, but I haven't done enough exploring to know.. Anyway, since I dont have Photoshop on this computer I will have to wait until I get back to Savannah to edit the images from the shoot. But here is an unedited shot from the day, it was a lot of fun shooting these two. We got to climb on big rocks! Woohoo!

Winter break is going well.. I've been trying to figure out what kind of projects I want to work on next quarter... I think I figured out printmaking... we'll see about photo.

I am wired... wow. There really isn't much to do in Elkhart so we hang out at a local restaurant. (Calahan's) We sat there for probably at least four hours. Really, there isn't anything to do in Elkhart, I dont joke. I sit online the entire day and then when my friends are off work or done with class for the day, I finally leave my house. Oh well, it's a break. Much needed.. Tomorrow i'm going into my old commercial photography class from high school to talk with the kids in there now. I'm actually excited for it. I want to see how much the department has grown/ changed. If it's gone all digital i'm going to flip. Everyone who wants to understand photography to it's fullest needs to learn film based photography first. No question about that. I hate the students who come into the SCAD photo department only knowing digital. Maybe it's because my first... 3-4 years of learning photography was spent in the dark room and i'm bitter about that and think that everyone else needs to put in that kind of time... But, no.. to truly understand how to properly expose a negative and to edit an image, you need to understand the basics. Digital is too easy to just accidentally get a good image. We had a discussion about this a few years ago when the SCAD photo department was changing it's intro classes. Students are introduced to digital first... (seriously??) We were all... sophomores? juniors?.. one of those years.. And we were all basically in an outrage. We could stick to the catalog year we were on, so it wasn't a class change issue for us. But the fact people dont need to learn film anymore gets me... Anyway, the point to that side note was our professor (Craig Stevens) called us all romantics. He totally wasn't expecting that, but we all felt the same.

Now, i'm not trying to say I ever want to step foot in a darkroom again to produce my work. I'm just thankful for my beginning years to photography. I'm thinking for my senior project class that I will shoot B&W 4x5... that's only because I still have a box in my fridge and this is the last time i'll probably ever have a chance to use it. Of course I would develop it myself, but then scan it and make a digital print. That's just my work flow these days. (Have to keep up with the times.) Having to teach myself new equipment after college should be interesting.... oohh boy. I need to subscribe to all those kinds of magazines again to get up to date on the technical side of things...

Wow.. drinking coffee for 4 hours straight apparently makes me write a novel.. Hope you enjoyed my daily rant. Good night.

Indiana Doesn't Change...

I made it back to Indiana today... not to much has changed. Yet a lot has at the same time. Buildings are gone and a few new ones, but it still looks bare, and apparently we are a city now that uses round-abouts... who knew?! It was the LONGEST drive EVER. I hate doing it alone... not fun..

I dont really have any rants for today... partly because its almost 3AM and my mind has basically shut off...

Umm.. I plan to change around my website again. I want to put a direct link to this blog off there to drive more attention to it..

Hello all! It is officially 1:30 AM on Thursday soo... HAPPY THANKSGIVING! I said I would work in the morning to hopefully make a buck or two so I doubt i'll be blogging tomorrow. I'm working a party of 400 and then afterwards I am going to my good friend's house for a good ole Thanksgiving dinner! I'm super excited about that last part. I wasn't able to make it home last year for Thanksgiving either, so it's nothing new for me. As long as I'm home for Christmas I am good to go.

I will be in California in 7 days, folks! 7 DAYS! I'm super excited. I think I blogged last night??? I feel like I did... I should go back and see.. I've lost track of days since I'm not in school at the moment. So if I'm repeating anything, forgive me! But, there is talk of going to San Diego.. yay! This should be a great visit! And I think we're going to try and go to LA at some point.

I have my winter break To-Do list... I need to get some of this done...

1) Family Portraits for a few people

2) Sketch ideas for printmaking next quarter

3) Come up with idea for Senior project

4) Decide if I want a roommate or not... leaning towards no.. but if it happens... cool

It's never felt SO good to be on winter break! The last two days I slept in until 11 or so, and the proceeded to lay in bed for another hour after that. Im taking advantage of it while I can for sure! The end of the quarter ended up going well. Finals were awesome. I switched out of my Senior class to take another printmaking class... I decided to take senior during spring quarter. Doing one portfolio in 10 weeks and making it look amazing doesn't seem possible anymore. I want to think of a few ideas over winter break and start shooting it throughout winter quarter. I just want more time to come up with a strong cohesive body of work. I'm thinking right now i'm going to do strictly food photography but at the same time I want to do something other than commercial work.... who knows. I just need to sit down and think about what direction I want to take this project.

I head home sometime on Friday. I cannot wait! And then a few days later I take off to California! I guess we're going to be taking a day trip to San Diego! So excited! And there has been talk of spending the day in LA! I am psyched! I'm looking into living in the Pasadena area after graduation.. I'm ready to move from the south.

Well, I dont have a rant this time.... I've just been relaxing and not letting things bother me. I'm not letting things bother me, when there are things that TOTALLY could have me fuming right now... BUT I dont care. People are going to be stupid and i'm going to enjoy my stress free life at the moment!

Here comes the sun..

I'm at work, listening to the Beatles while I prepare for my speech this afternoon. I'm feeling really good about it right now.. Image retouching laws really urk me, being a photographer and all. But I've already written about that... so I wont get into that again...

Finals are in their last days. I've called it quits for my projects because there really isn't much more I can do. I think i'm at the point I need to be. Printmaking went over great! While on the topic of finals... for Business we had to put together a portfolio of our "Best Hits" And some of my best hits do not exist in digital format anymore due to my hardrive being taken from one of the labs last spring and me being THAT person who didn't have them all backed up yet... *Gold Star* I've learned from my mistakes, dont worry! But I didn't feel as though in my given time I could recreate these images exactly as before. I have prints of them, so I just wanted to try and work with those if I could get a good scan from them. If not, I would have reshot and been even more stressed out than I was already.

Anyway, back to the point of my story about finals.. I was running around trying to find a scanner. The photo building has TWO. Guess what? They were both being used. One of them the person seemed to go MIA but left all of their stuff set up. I'm not that kind of person who is just going to jump in and move someones stuff.. So I kept running from the 1st floor to the 4th to see if either person had finished. Nope. One person was just using the computer to scan negatives. There are four other computers hooked up to the same kind of film scanner. Seriously? Leave the flat bed scanner open.. There aren't many of them... So I gave up on the photo building and ran down the street to the library. 1st floor, every computer being taken up. Not scanning, people editing in Photoshop and checking Facebook... scoot over! 2nd floor, same story. FINALLY I go to the 3rd floor tucked away in a back corner where no one ever goes (except for the two people back there..) I found an open scanner. It seriously took me a good 45 minutes to find a scanner because people dont understand proper scanner etiquette... I mean, I guess it's not a HUGE deal... but during finals... Those sort of things just put you on edge!..

A friend spent this quarter at our campus in France and he came home last night. So instead of working on my speech and practicing it (although I feel good about it.. so I guess it wasn't a big deal) I stayed up until 4:00AM hanging out with some friends... just to be up at 6:00AM.. Somehow I managed to roll out of bed at 6:30... Needless I'm super tired, I dont see how people pull all nighters, I dont think I could do it. I enjoy sleep.. even if it is just a few hours. I had my coffee this morning so I feel better than I did. But I'm off to practice my speech.

Finals coming to an end... THANK GOD!

Hello bloggers, sorry I went MIA for a few days. Things got a little hectic here because I'm going through finals this past weekend... I've been chipping away at them. Just about done with printmaking... have to mount them and then i'll be finished. I'm not 100% happy with it, probably because i've been looking at it non stop for the last two weeks. But others have liked it, so i'm going with is. My business class is the only one I really need to get finished. My website is basically done for presentation on Thursday. I'm always updating it after I shoot, so I guess i cant really say that i'm ever finished with it. I'll be in the studio tonight shooting a few more products to ad to my book for Business also. I'm not super satisfied with what I have, so i'm going to keep shooting. Hopefully i'll be taking a few out. The more I look at them, the more I dislike a few of them.

My final in Speech and Public Speaking really caught my attention. We have to give a professional speech about a topic or an issue within our major/ career choice. I didn't want to do the normal "Digital vs. Film" B&W vs. Color" yadda yadda yadda.... over done, i have my views on both of the subjects but my classmates are already going to be dead to the world because of finals... I dont want to assist them in falling asleep during class. So instead, I think I picked a topic that will get some people heated... I get heated thinking about it. My topic ladies and gentlemen... Image Retouching: Right or wrong. It is a mix between an informative speech and persuasive speech... I have such strong feelings on the subject that I couldn't really leave my desire to persuade others.

Let me just say, if the law to make it illegal to retouch an image makes it to the States... i'm moving to Canada... unless they have the same law.. then I wont move there.. I haven't done my research on Canada. Basically to sum up my research from the past two weeks... France is attempting to have a law passed to make it illegal to retouch any image. The French have their panties in a twist because the growing number or eating disorders and girls with low self-esteem problems. I'm sorry... stop pointing your finger at someone else because you can't control your emotions. No one is forcing you to become anorexic or to feel unhappy. Guess what people, images have been retouched for YEARS! Ever since the 1800's... it's not a new idea. Since this isn't a new idea, we all know they're enhanced so we SHOULD know they are not true. Yes, some people are morally against altering a photograph. But to be honest, the lens will already alter how something looks. Keystoning happens to buildings when shooting with a format other than 4x5 (so you can correct the lines and make them look the way your eye actually sees it.)

I know parents dont like to hear how to raise their children from people who dont have kids. But you're going to have to hear advise from a non-parent one more time.... If we want kids to have healthy self-esteem and not have them running to the bathroom to throw up their Wheaties... dont allow them to view these magazines (Cosmo, Vouge, Marie Claire, etc) Hell, I wasn't even allowed to read Seventeen for the longest time. If kids are taught how to gain self-esteem at a young age, then they wont be unhappy looking at magazines. They too, like me, will look at the magazines for who's featured on the cover or to get tips on clothing. Not unhappiness. Pound it into your little girls head, IMAGES ARE RETOUCHED. THEY ARE NOT TRUE. Photo shoots cost thousands upon thousands of dollars and photographers are some of the most anal people out there... we're going to have our work look the best it can. End of story.

Well, that was my little rant... I basically just gave my entire speech. Sweet, and I didn't even have to look at any of my notes to write that little schpeal. I should do just fine! I wanted to buy one of these shirts to wear for my speech... but I can't see that going over too well.. they also sell pins I could have passed out. But on the poor college student budget for the moment... it didn't seem like a good idea when i'll probably just piss of my class and it'll go in the trash.

So Much Gets Done When You Get Up Early..

I've been dog sitting the past week and he decided yesterday that he wanted me to wake up at 7 AM... when my alarm was set for 8:30. I tried fighting him for a little bit, but I lost that war. It turned out to be a good idea to roll out of bed at 7. Somehow I ended up being super awake. Did some house work and once the photo building was open I headed there to edit photos. Not only did I almost finish editing wedding photos, I managed to write my speech outline then head to the painting building to work on my printmaking project. Not to mention i finished my new promo card for Business Practices. Not only did I design it, I even went and had it printed.. It feels good knowing I am staying up with my finals, so i'm sitting at work right now without homework to do. It's kind of a strange feeling... So tonight is going to be spent in the studio shooting for my book. It's much needed.. I've started feeling motivation again, so I'm going to take advantage of it.

The wedding this weekend went great! Leigh and Rex are amazing people and I had so much fun shooting their wedding! The picture posted above is one of many from the big day.

Since I'm at work I might actually want to do some sort of work.. I'm off to mix those good ol` darkroom chemicals!

I'm shooting my first wedding tonight in years. So wish me luck! It's for a close friend so it shouldn't be too bad. Just slightly scary. Finals are going well. I updated my website www.JWhiteheadphoto.com Took some things off that didn't belong. I have my first block for my printmaking project carved out. I need to run a state proof of that and i'm right on track.

Ohhhh Savannah.. I am ready for a vacation. 3 weeks until I go home, and just under a month until I go to California! Life is good. Now I just need to make it through to the end of the quarter..

End of Quarter Scramble

Well folks, it's the time of the year again. Finals season. Although, from my work load I'm not really feeling that rush so much. At least not this week... The only thing that has had me worried is my Business Practices class... the other day we discussed how to get credit, keep it at a good score, getting loans, paying back loans, etc etc etc. Needless to say, it was a scary lecture for most of us. Just about everyone of us wanted to start crying as we walked out of the classroom. Okay, maybe not actually cry, but maybe more like... become professional students and not make that jump in the "real world."

But, since we do all have to join the real world at some point, i'm now checking out Mac-on-Campus. I've never really looked at this website, but our professors are always saying it's a good place to buy equipment and to do it before we graduate. Mac-on-Campus is for students and I think teachers...? to buy equipment for cheaper than most retailers. I need to update what I have. Basically, my next large purchase will be a new camera. I'm debating whether I should find a 5D around or just go for the 5D mark II... Then lighting, lenses, etc.

I'm throwing around the idea of graduate school. If I do i'll be going to get my MA in Art Education so I have the option of teaching. I really do enjoy showing someone how to solve a problem. I've always had the idea of teaching high school photography in the back of my mind. Once I graduate i'm picking up and moving. Most likely LA, and then i'll go from there. I can't think to long on something like this. If I think too much, I'll over think it and take forever in making a decision. So. Dont think. Just do. That's going to be my moto.

I started my website last night, and worked on it all day today. It's almost done! I'm waiting for LiveBooks to get back to me about making it go live. I think they said something about it taking 48 hours?? Gives me time to get everything uploaded. Its looking good! I'm getting myself caught up on a lot of things so i'll have more time to shoot. Now i'm trying to work on a group project for my business class.. Not really sure how to do any of this.. I guess it's a good thing we're doing it now! We're writing estimates for a photo shoot.. I'm in charge of expendables... NO idea what we'll need on this shoot that we can't take back, because it's an outdoor shoot. So we wont need paint, or backgrounds, etc. Who knows. At least it isn't due until Thursday... Tomorrow I have to go out and find part of the talent I'm in charge of.

So, that's been my weekend in a nutshell. I worked also, that was ok. I just realized i'm going to have to work a lot more to save money for my vacation... but i dont have time to work more than once or twice a weekend. Well, i'm not really paying attention to this right now... I feel like i'm just rambling.. I'll update more tomorrow..

I have not spent this much time in the photo building in... months. I got here for work at 8:30, left for about an hour and a half to run an errand. Then came right back. It's been a long day. I've spent the whole evening in the studio. Felt good to get back in there. I just need to come up with ideas that are a bit more developed. But I got some nice stuff. I had my friend Aaron come up to the studio so I could snap a few portraits of him. I want to add more portraits to my body of work.. It was a fun session with him. haha... oohhhh aaron!

Now its time to edit!

I haven't come up with any new ideas to shoot tomorrow night. I want to do table top, but I have no idea what. Maybe i'll just pull a friend or two in the studio and shoot them? We'll see. I need creative help right now! I feel like I should have more homework to do from home right now. I went to Starbucks after my softball game (that we won, by the way! Go Blumpkins!) But that coffee is slowly wearing off, I feel like I could get so much more done tonight... when it comes down to it, everything else has to be done elsewhere. Maybe I can come up with an idea for printmaking??

I'm off to bed, possibly. Unless I get distracted by something else..

It really feels as if it should be Friday tomorrow... This week has been so long. Very little sleep since the weekend, stress, and everything else that comes with life. I actually forgot for a minute that I have an 8AM class tomorrow... great. But I enjoy it, it's my printmaking class. Which I have fallen in love with. If I had more time at SCAD, I probably would minor in it.. I only have 3 more electives left??? So I dont even have the space to fit it in... OH WELL. Speaking of printmaking... my last print was a big hit. I loved it! Once I get it back, i'll post it up eventually. It looks pretty sick.

It's been such a long week... and its only 1AM on a Thursday... The week isn't even over. It hasn't killed me yet, have to keep going..

4 Hours of Sleep in 48 hours...

The last two nights I have stayed up really late studying, almost pulling all nighters. I realized Sunday night it wasn't worth pulling an all nighter for Speech & Public speaking... So I went to bed 2 hours or so before I had to wake up for work. And last night I did the same, but for my Business Practices class. We had a lot of reading to catch up on, and since this was the first quiz and it kept getting pushed back, I thought MAYBE, just MAYBE it would be a difficult one... Nope, 12 questions. 2 of which were bonus. And it was all common sense. So I got little sleep for NOTHING! *shaking my head* I plan on getting sleep tonight though... I dont have anything due tomorrow.. at least nothing I can't do at work.

I think this weekend I'm mainly going to focus on doing table top work. One day I may bring a friend into the studio so I can experiment wit the digital Hasselblad. I still haven't touched that camera yet; I'm very interested in learning to shoot teethered. As much as I need to work this week... thank God I'm not on the schedule at all...

Now... cleaning up a bit and hitting the sack to catch up on some much needed rest..

This is the first quarter of school since fall quarter of freshman year I haven't had a class where I was shooting everyday. That has really taken a toll on my portfolio. Between keeping up with my classes and starting a new job I haven't had many chances to shoot. This weekend that will all change. I plan on moving myself right back into Bergen to do some massive loads of work! I will be posting new stuff on my website within the week. (studentpages.scad.edu/~jwhite29) I know i've said it before, but I will have my own domain name very soon. I have to buy one for my class and become a member with LiveBooksEdu for my business practices class, so look out for that! I'm not exactly sure what all I will spend time shooting this weekend. Some accessories, food, portraits even? I just know I'm excited!

I really feel out of the loop with pop culture and what's going on in the world. I hear our president received the nobel peace prize this past week? I know I haven't paid much attention to him or any other sort of politics lately... but what did the man do exactly?? I know he has a plan for healthcare going on that from what I've heard, it's not very popular... I try to watch the news as much as possible.. just doesn't always work out.

I bought a few new books in the past few weeks. Haven't really sat down to read any of them. Well, tonight I have a hot date with my ASMP Professional Business Practices in Photography book! oh yeah! (quiz tomorrow.. so i'm reading up on that..) But I bought Water For Elephants, which i've heard is VERY good. One day i'll have time to sit and read for fun again!

Well, I should get back to my studying!

I'm at the home stretch. Senior year. Wow. Seriously feels like I was just a freshman. I miss the feeling of being "new" here. Since moving here I have barely gone home at all so I'm starting to feel like a local. This school year should be good. I'm really disappointed with myself that I did not go Lacoste this quarter. I did not realize how much I would love Europe when I went.

Now that school is back in session and I have access to great equipment again I need to start some serious shooting. I want to improve my portfolio. Business Practices for Photo. scares me just because I am in that last home stretch and this is me ACTUALLY working towards finding a job. (yikes!)

Due to me not having an actual job for the last 2 months, i've picked up some freelance projects. Some shooting, some graphic design, a wedding in a few months, etc. I've realized that right now I just need to work on school and getting my name out there to build a client base. In the mean time for a job I sit in The Cave and check out darkroom equipment of the kiddies in the few film classes that are left in this school.

This should be a good year.

Summer's almost over...

Well, I just re-read my "summer goals." The only thing that actually happened was that I went to Europe. (Which was AMAZING by the way!) Slowly getting my website put together. Slowly but surely. Well, at the moment I dont have a job so it's allowing me to have time to freelance. Which is good, within a few hours I picked up two projects :) Which will be nice, i'll be doing something I actually enjoy! School starts back up soon. Can't decide if i'm actually ready for it to start. I mean, I'm excited about being able to use the studio and labs.. but not the actual grading part of it. Oh well, it's my senior year! Should be an interesting one. At this point i'm debating where I want to go/ stay after graduation... ooohhhh so many choices! I have a year to decide those sort of things! I think i've crossed off NYC from my list. LOVE the city, but after spending a week in London... i dont think i could deal with huge crowds like that everyday! Like I said, I have a year to decide!

School is out for the summer :) I'll be starting my senior year of college in the fall. yikes! (It's gone by soo fast) I have to be productive this summer and make the 100g's and 4 years of SCAD worth it!

Summer To-Do list:

1. Shoot for my portfolio
2. Redesign website
3. Design a business card
4. 3 weeks in Europe :)
5. Job search for jobs in NYC, Chicago or Los Angeles
6. Get back into shape
7. ... anything else productive that doesn't keep my sitting on my butt all day

This image above is from Real Fest in Clearwater, Florida. This guy's name is Haelo. You should check out his myspace, i think he was one of the best of the hip hop artists that day. I'm still working on editing the 1000's of pictures I took that day. (Literally) Once I get those done, i'll be adding them to my website. (studentpages.scad.edu/~jwhite29) I dont have my own domain name quite yet... i want to redesign and make it look more professional.

Wow, the last few months have been interesting. I've been doing a lot more commercial type work. Which I have realized is what I want my main focus to be. I'm in the process of looking for a new apartment. I'll have a new roommate. Not living downtown. Its all so weird. I don't like this growing up deal. I've decided i'm going to be 21 forever. I'm already drained by the "real world." I have put my two weeks notice in at work... going back to my old job. Which is the same thing, just better I guess. I'll make more money, so the b.s of working in a restaurant will be worth it. My current roommate/ best friend is moving back home. So that'll be FUN.... something of that nature... :( On top of everything, i've been thinking about going to Grad school in NYC or some other big city.. Basically there is a lot going on in my life at the moment... we'll see how this all works out...

Well, I havn't even touched this thing since July... oops. Fall quarter came and went. I wasn't digging school to much, I did alright gradewise... we wont even talk about psycology... thank god that doesn't go towards my major gpa... Anyway, I had mentioned wanting to go on a trip this summer, I did end up making it to NYC! I stayed with my roomate at Columbia University. It was by far the best trip i've ever taken, i'm thinking there is a very good chance NYC is where i'm going after college.. I wish I could have stayed longer than four days! I'm going to attempt getting an internship up there over the summer.

Lately I've gotten back into portraits. Once my dream of doing mainly product photography was shot down because I guess there is no longer an industry for it...?? Also, after my lighting class I reunited with the love of doing portraits. So it's all good. I loved my lighting class, I want to take the advanced class next quarter... but it's full... So, i hope on will open!

That is what I have been doing since I finished school, work.. work.. work... But it's going to be worth it, I'm going to NYC in a few weeks! :) I am REALLY excited! I've never been there before and I'm going to go and visit my roomate. Hopefully i'm going to get some good shots. But I dont want anything too cliche. We'll see what happens. I'm only going for four days, wish I could stay longer but i'll take what i can get. Anyway, I've started to do SOME photography on my own. But i've been so busy with work that I havn't had a chance to do too much. The picture above is a new one. I'm still working on my plant life series... i think. Just going to change it around some.

Alright, so. I'm either getting a sinus infection of just allergies. Or i'm getting sick. Who knows, I feel like crap either way. Anyway... I havn't really been doing to much stuff photographically for the last few weeks since I got out of school. I lost motivation for the series i had been working on. I need to find new ways to approach what i'm doing. But I have no idea what to do. This Benadryl is really kicking in... not sure what i'm talking about right now. I dont know if i've ever been somewhere that has had to much rain/ storms in a week or two. (The picture above is from my poarch, I guess there was a tornado that day on the south side of town.) I'm planning a trip to NYC!! :) I'm sooo excited! I really hope it all works out! I miss my roomie! Plus i've never been to NYC so it's going to be a blast! Jono and I are planning a trip to visit Anna, should be a good time!

Alright... i cant keep my eyes open anymore because its 2 AM and the benadryl has kicked in full force...

Summer is here...

So, classes are finally over with. Thank Jesus. But the summer hasn't really started off too great. With Daisy's trip to the vet and working all the time just to pay my bills... its been alright tho. I've been trying to keep myself busy, playing softball, hanging with some new friends, stuff like that. I really want to get out of Savannah for a while this summer tho. Seeing everyones pictures from like NYC, DC, Europe, etc make me really want to take a trip. But I cant afford anything like that right now, so i doubt i will be able too. I would love to visit my roomie and friend in NYC, we'll see about that. I've never been there so i think it would be fun. I need to get back to working out, I have pictures in my bedroom from last summer... pretty depressing. haha I have the whole summer to get back in shape.

Alright, well. It's 130 in the morning... and nothing i'm saying really makes any sense or is interesting to read. I'll attempt to update this again in the near future

The quarter just started and i'm already over it. How sad is it i'd rather work than go to school? Considering i hate what i do. haha whatever. Then again i'm really not looking forward to the summer. I'm going to be here in Savannah alone. Well, probably will be anyway. My roomie got an internship and wont be here at all. It sucks, but good for her though. I dont know how i'll manage living by myself the entire summer though. So to my friends back home.. if you want a place to stay for a while COME VISIT ME! no, seriously. Anyway, school. I've already gotten off to a rocky start. I just need to sit down and get organized and figure out what i'm doing. Having an online class isn't bad. Just the fact I get distracted by Facebook and Myspace way too much. Take now for an example, i have my reading pulled up for my history class but i'm sitting here typing this rather than reading. i'm so ADD. I came to the photo building so i could possibly get something done. I couldn't take another night of sitting around the house by myself while my roomie was out doing her thing and anyone else i know is impossible to get ahold of. BAH! to all of you. Oh well. Oh yeah, I dont know if anyone reads this that i know.... Saturday night... meet me at the bars. People from work want to take me out for my birthday. i'll be going after work if everyone still plans on going. call me about it.

The quarter is ALMOST over! THANK GOD! This has been the most boring quarter of my life, i thought i would enjoy not having a lot of homework. Turns out its the opposite. I ended up sitting around not doing anything for the past two months. And my teacher hasnt gotten any better. Its actually worse, i think. We have a mutual hatred for each other. So, whatever. Actually, hate is a strong word. Im just going to avoid taking her again if i can help it! Although, my final is looking really good. This is the first thing I've done here at SCAD that i am really excited about. My inspiration came from Imogen Cunningham, its all based on plant life. Really cool stuff! So, I started off this day in a crappy mood for reasons I dont know, or just dont fell like posting. But having this blog has actually paid off, I was just offered an independent job for this company "Mega". Very cool. That made my day :) But there is a huge spider running around by this computer somewhere, so... i'm out.

It's amazing how school can make someone so unmotivated. Aren't teachers supposed to be there to help and not discourage their students?? Maybe one of my teachers didn't get that memo or something. I hate going to class and being told i'm basically a dumb ass because "i dont know what i'm doing." RIGHT. I've actually been happy with just about everything i've printed so far. The image above is one of them. It doesn't really do it justice on here, at least not on my screen. The blacks are actually 'black' rather than this muddy color it is now. I know it's been a 'hot minute' as they say here in the south... Or maybe it is every where... not sure. Heard it for the first time at my job here... like i was saying.. its been a hot minute since i've updated here. Now that i'm back in school i'll try to post more of my work. yup, thats Dane Cook. The amazing seats that we had tickets for, but then had to sell them because we decided not to go. DAMN! oh well...

I have resorted to super gluing the loose pieces on my phone. I refuse to pay full price for a new phone right now. I get a free one in a few months. My phone is GHETTO. woo hoo! Starting today, well.. technically yesterday, i'm working all day now. Good- I get a LITTLE bit more money. (I'm not exagerating on the LITTLE bit either) but it's bad because it cuts into other stuff i've had going on. Well, I really havn't had all that much stuff going on... just working out in the mornings every once in a while. Oh, and my sleeping time.. yeah.. waking up at 8 is rough right now... I'M IN TROUBLE! I have two 8ams this quarter... crap... Anyway, I work so much I havn't been able to go out and shoot. I think i've come up with a series.. well.. kind of. Doubt i'm going to do it anytime soon. I go to work early and by time I get out it's dark. YAY! I looovvee winter. gah. This has nothing really to do photography, my blog I mean. But I really dont know what to write about photo wise. Other than I havn't been able to go out and shoot much since i've been home. Maybe if the weather is good this weekend i'll head over to Amish country.. aka Middleburry or some place out in the boondocks of Indiana!

Why do all the movies in theaters right now suck? Well, excluding Hitman. That rocked! "Stop talking, or I'm putting you back in the trunk" well, something like that. I probably butchered that line, oh well. Back to my the point, all the movies out right now look terrible! I want to take my brother to the movies because we dont get to hang out much, but there isn't anything I want to see. Although, next week the little kid in me is looking forward to the Chipmunk movie! Wooo!!! Yes, I really am excited! I want to start selling prints. How would I go about that? I'm not very good at the business side of photography. I'm trying. I have quite a few shoots set up for the time I'm here, home. But I'm only making money off of one of them. I'm ready to get back to Savannah. I'm not ready for school. Just ready to be back in my own place. Back to a job where I actually do something. Back to the place where I can ride my bike to get around town. Back to just doing my own thing. My job here is a joke. Everyday I get more and more pissed off at how much of a joke it is. But hey, it's money and I still have rent to pay. So, i'll just be a trooper and deal with it. Only what... 3 or 4 more weeks? YAY. Oh yeah, I shot family portraits today for a couple friends. Their son is so much fun to photograph! His picture is the one I posted this time.

So, i'm going to try something new. See if it helps get my name "out there." One of my teachers was talking about how blogging has worked for some people so... it can't hurt. Anyway, I guess I should introduce myself.. I'm Jessica, 19 and I attend Savannah College of Art and Design in Georgia. I like biking, well, I learned to like biking... that's how I get around town. I'm still confused as to what kind of photographer I want to be for sure after I graduate. Right now i'm leaning towards being a photojournalist. Even when I take portraits, I like to try and get people in their natural state. So, I'm thinking that's what I want to do. But. In 6 months that may change back to table top photography. Heck, maybe I'll just do all of them.... I still have time.

These pictures i'm posting are from my Color Photography class from this past quarter. It's not all of them, just the ones I think to be more sucessful.
